Balance and Ecosystems

To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.
-Mary Oliver

Today is the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere. A day of balance – night and day in equilibrium. The town I live and work in hit that balance on Sunday with a 12 hour and 48 second day. But for most today is the day.

Longer days, cherry blossoms, crocuses, daffodils, and heather blooming have all taken center stage in brightening my days as I watch world, and particularly country, events get darker and grimmer. I can’t look away. Paying attention is necessary. But so is paying attention to the life and beauty of the everyday. The crows’ silly antics now that it’s spring. The daffodils bobbing in the wind. The pink cherry blossoms against a grey sky.

These moments of beauty and life remind me why I got into solar in the first place. To work towards better, decarbonized energy in an equitable way that helps protect this incredible planet and my little corner of it. It’s connected. It’s an ecosystem. I hope we don’t find out just how fragile that balance is the hard way.

Solar, energy storage, and grid mod are all ecosystems too. We’re all connected in this network of clean energy. And like the changing season, the winds are shifting in our ecosystems. Layoffs over there. Reorgs in another area. Oh, and look in that corner – companies are hiring. It’s a turbulent time to be in clean energy.

While the possibilities of solar is what got me into the industry over 20 years ago, what has kept me here are the incredible people. The brilliant minds, the kind hearts, and the shared knowledge that all of this can and will be better.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can make an introduction, help, or just text you dumb memes.

AI – Oh my!
Getting AI Use Right in Your Clean Energy Design and Marketing

For better or worse, clean energy design and marketing have been swallowed into the AI machine. And while output is always improving, there is still a lot of *ahem* less than stellar work coming out and reflecting the clean energy industry in mediocre ways.

Understanding dos, don’ts, and a little design psychology and theory can go a long way toward presenting your brand better when using AI tools. Read on for a primer on what to look for when working with AI in design and marketing.
