Well, unless you’ve been on vacation in some far-flung area of the world*, I assume you’ve heard by now that solar and wind took quite the hit in the latest budget bill signed into law on July 4th. That was followed closely by instructions for incredibly strict guidance in what is covered under safe harbor rules. The REAP program was not re-opened on July 1st for new applications from farmers, which have covered matching grants for a myriad of improvements, including solar. SEIA has stated 330,000 jobs and 331 US factories are threatened by the budget. Additionally, estimates from Energy Innovation show wholesale electricity prices will increase by 25% by 2030 and 74% by 2035.
I have spoken to quite a few people who are having a hard time finding the “good” right now. I get it. I feel like we’re on one of those pendulum swing rides at an amusement park instead of the solar coaster. The industry is in a different place than it was a year ago, and projections aren’t great. I expect well-capitalized companies will weather this and it won’t be long before solar is the obvious financial choice in all states with or without incentives. Less capitalized companies won’t do so well.
What can we do? Vote, of course. Call and email your local, state, and national representatives. Let them know what clean energy means to you. And we can work together for the good of the industry. Tell your clean energy stories. Facts help, but stories are memorable. Share job postings. Talk up colleagues to those who are looking to fill positions. And try to laugh at the utter absurdity. Memes help.
Please reach out if I can help with an introduction, an ear to listen, a meme, or branding consult.

Connect Your Clean Energy Brand Visuals to Your Brand Roots
Last month, we dove into the unseen elements that go into developing your brand. These core “roots” are necessary for a healthy, thriving brand, ensuring strategies match with overall goals and your vision.
This month, I explain how to use the root pieces to effectively develop the visible elements of your brand and brand marketing. From developing your brand and visual identity to connecting the knowledge articulated in root elements into visual branding, marketing, and forward-facing strategies.
I walk through examples of two fictional clean energy companies to show how articulation impacts execution in brand strategy. And what elements are involved in decision-making.
Oh, and there’s an infomercial.
