Happy Earth Day, April 2019

April 22, 2019

Today marks the 49th year we’ve celebrated Earth Day. As I’m writing this, I’m looking out my window and the sun is shining, there are beautiful, white fluffy clouds in the sky, the air is crisp from rain earlier, and the evergreens across the street are swaying lightly in the breeze. One of my two kittens is napping contentedly by the window. We live in an incredible world.

I am excited to celebrate Earth Day this year. I know we have a loooong way to go to ensure a sustainable and equitable future, but today I’m celebrating how far we’ve come. Way back in the dark ages when I was but a wee lass, the high school I went to had absolutely nothing akin to a recycling program, even for paper. I know low hanging fruit, right? In one year, a group of students, myself included, fought to start a paper and can recycling program. By the time I left high school, the systems we created were consistently being used. In September, the solar industry will descend on the same state where I went to high school and celebrate a state that has wholly embraced solar. Progress!

Today, celebrate the wins we’ve made, even as we look forward to what we still need to accomplish. And remember Maya Angelou’s words, “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”

Tomorrow we do better.

If you haven’t heard of the circular economy, you will. Understanding the impacts of the complete life cycle of products is important. As an industry dedicated to renewable energy, and making the world a better place, solar needs to lead by example. One company moving this process forward is Recycle PV Solar. We wanted to share this video as we think this topic is important.
